The Porn Watchers Union, Part 2

with 2 comments

We did seven songs. Which is a lot better than six from last time. Anyway, I think this was the order.

  1.  Libel Song – one of mine. Vocals suck, lyrics aren’t great either. But it’s also forty seconds long.
  2. Damn – System Of A Down cover from 1995 (predating the classic Toxicity by six years). I sang lead here too, in a comically poor way. Unintentionally. And I played bass (the only song from the session with bass on it) and drums. Ross played melodica. Only time I swore on record during the session. Actually, the only time either of us swore on record. Well… we also did this little number:
  3. Jacking Off In Science Class – Only Ross is cool enough to have thought of this. Guitar solo rules.
  4. Spank Thru – Nirvana cover. Also sung in comically poor fashion by me, but on purpose this time. I speed up by about 20 BPM, or something ridiculous like that. I could have resisted, but I was thinking of the original.
  5. Cars – Original instrumental, 5:25 long. Ross wrote this. I do two drum solos. TWO! And Ross does two guitar solos. It sounds like one of the songs from the other session, but better.
  6. ’39 – Queen cover. Not much to say here.
  7. Fat Bottomed Girls – Another Queen cover. Started out okay but the harmonies kind of screwed this one. Whatever.

So we are now a guitar/drums band. Like the White Stripes, but I can keep a somewhat steady beat for more than six seconds. Unlike Meg White. Awesome. Keep posted for our further doings. We now have enough material for an album, clocking in at a less-than-opportune 25:17 with the other stuff from the first session. We used more than one drum mic, one of which was an SM-57, the other a Sennheiser. Not sure of spelling here. Sennheiser was also used as the vocal mic a lot. And the Epiphone Sheraton sounded great as usual. And the Squier Bullet sounded like crap and ended up buried in the mix (on Libel Song). And Ross’ brother wasn’t home which made things infinitely easier around.

If someone has a contact that can book us somewhere where we’re not the focal point of the evening, it’s appreciated. Anyone doing any house parties in the near future?
